Charlotte Doyle by Avi

Charlotte Doyle is a 13 year old girl who has lived in luxury her her whole life but, she has to return home by boat to the USA. When she's asked by one of the crew not to come she refuses.  Later she learns all the other families mysteriously can't make it leaving her alone with a crew of men, a captain, and a room so small she cries at the sight of it.  If I were to rate this book I'd give it a five.

Wish Stealers

Wish Stealers by Tracy Trivas

I give Wish Stealers 10 stars out of 5
Griffin Penshine is left with seven stolen wishes that a strange woman gave her. She would soon find out more about this old woman, but in the meantime she has a science project to do with a new friend Garret. She needs to return these wishes without telling anyone or else. Can she do it? Or will she tell? Will she fail? You will have to find out yourselves.
Recommended for fourth graders through sixth graders. It is 6 AR points and at the level of 4.4 it is a great book and I loved it.

Provo Library

This morning I attended the monthly gathering at the Provo library called "Top of the Morning".
The children's department coordinators invite all the school librarians to talk about books we have read and the library staff shares new books with us.  I really enjoy this early morning visit with other lovers of children's books. But this morning I came away feeling so grateful for the Provo library in our mist.  They have so many wonderful programs and we are making news in the books world.  Publishing companies want to send authors to our valley.
So please make time to gather with your families and see all that the Provo Library has to offer.

War Horse

Happy New Year.  Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful winter break.  Winter? Didn't see much of that.
Did you?  Well December is the month of new movie releases and as we know many movies are now adapted from books.  War Horse is the latest release by Michael Morpurgo. I recently read the book and I believe it was the first book I've read from the horses perspective. In 1914, Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges toward the enemy, witnessing the horror of the battles in France. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey's courage touches the soldiers around him and he is able to find warmth and hope. But his heart aches for Albert, the farmer's son he left behind. Will he ever see his true master again?

Comparison Review of War Horse the book and the movie by Kate Kitly and Tom Cruise

The movie was terrific and awesome I was crying when his horse got sold to the cavalry. Steven did a good job directing it.

                    Movie

Albert has a Thoroughbred horse named Joey who gets sold by his father to the army. He sets out on a adventure even though to young to join the army he sets out to find beloved horse. There are many things Albert will do and take to find his horse.

                    Book

When Albert's father brings home a horse from a auction he trains and names this horse Joey. When a war has started Albert's  father sells the horse to the army. Albert sets out to find his best friend.
